Car Strikes Power Pole

Early Tuesday Morning, a driver took out a power pole in Vista and knocked out power to over 2,500 San Diego Gas & Electric customers. The incident happened at about 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of West Vista Way and Emerald Drive. According to Fox Channel 5 News, a suspected drunk driver was behind the wheel.

When the power pole was knocked over, hot power lines were strewn dangerously across the intersection. The driver continued through the intersection and hit another pole. He then attempted to flee the scene on foot. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer detained him, and he was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of injuries. As of 7:45 a.m., at least nine customers were still without power. Full service was expected to be restored by about 4:00 p.m.
