CHP Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers
Since over 1,000 people are killed in alcohol-involved crashes in California each year, officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are hoping to do something about these preventable dangerous and deadly crashes. They have just issued a press release about upcoming efforts to curb impaired driving across the state. They’ve received a federal “Reducing Impaired Driving” grant to help fund anti-drunk-driving initiatives. In addition to other regular operations and programs, the CHP is hoping this grant will help to reduce injury-causing and fatal crashes due to impaired driving.
What Will the Grant Fund?
• 150 sobriety checkpoints
• 75 DUI task force operations
• Proactive DUI enforcement patrols through September 30, 2015
• At least 100 safety presentations throughout the state.
Drunk Driving Crashes in California
Each year, over 23,000 people are injured in drunk driving crashes in the State of California alone. Injured victims are often in the hospital and out of work. An injury during the holiday season can make getting back on your feet difficult, to say the least. Instead of worrying about cooking the perfect turkey or shopping for holiday gifts, you might be struggling to make ends meet while you’re recovering from a painful injury.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over This Holiday Season
With the joy and celebrations that go along with the holiday season, there’s also the sad fact that there will also be an increase in injury-causing and fatal crashes due to drunk driving. In addition to an increase in state law enforcement operations, local police departments and sheriff’s offices will also be stepping up their efforts to crack down on drunk drivers for the holiday season.
