Cuesta College Student Hit by Truck in San Luis Obispo

On Friday, January 24, 2013, Cuesta College student, Jeff Mitchell, was hit by a truck on Tank Farm road near Brookpine. The accident took place sometime around 6:45 pm. Jeff’s mother had stated that Jeff was coming home on the bus from his classes at Cuesta before he was hit. Jeff was taken immediately to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center but was then transferred to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Fortunately, Jeff is not suffering any life-threatening injuries, but he did sustain broken bones in his leg, arm, wrist, and pelvis. Tara Mitchell, Jeff’s mother said, “We’re so blessed and it’s amazing that he’s alive. But we’re still angry.” She said they were still upset because the bus stop is not well lit and it is on a curved section of road.

We encourage drivers to constantly be alert, especially at night. The Central Coast constantly has pedestrians and bicyclists and as drivers, we always have the responsibility to protect pedestrians on the road.

At Harris Personal Injury Lawyers our San Luis Obispo pedestrian accident lawyers are experienced in handling these matters. Our hearts go out to Jeff and the Mitchell family and to anyone else involved. We wish Jeff a speedy recovery.
