Last week, a bicycle rider was fatally struck by a vehicle on Modoc Road near Santa Barbara. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened near Encore Drive, about a quarter mile south of Hollister Avenue. Very few details about this incident have been released, but we do know that a westbound Ford Explorer hit the cyclist.

Initial reports indicate that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. That person did not survive his injuries. Additionally, the bicycle didn’t appear to be equipped with any reflectors or lighting devices. The driver involved was evaluated by California Highway Patrol officers, and was not suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. At this time, the incident is likely still under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
