Cyclist’s Face Impaled on Truck Roof Rack in Lakeside

Earlier this week, a cyclist’s face was impaled on a truck’s roof rack during a collision in Lakeside. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened near a convenience store on the 10100 block of Maine Avenue. The Tuesday morning crash involved a work truck and a bicycle. Initial reports indicate that when the bicycle and the truck collided, a hook on the front of a cargo rack extending over the cab of the truck went through the underside of the cyclist’s jaw and out his right cheek.

The cyclist was caught on the metal peg, and emergency responders held off trying to remove him from the rack until they could get in touch with hospital personnel about how to handle the situation. He was conscious and alert during the extrication process and subsequently rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of severe injuries.
