Distracted Driver Knocks Out Power in Mission Canyon

On Tuesday night, a distracted driver in the Mission Canyon area veered off the roadway and knocked down a power pole. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, she was headed westbound on Mission Canyon Road, and ran off the road near the 600 block at about 11:13 p.m.

Initial reports indicate that the driver was changing a song on her phone at the time of the crash. In addition to being cited for making an unsafe turn, she was also cited for not having proof of insurance and for driving on a suspended license. The driver did suffer from minor injuries, and she was treated on the scene. Power was knocked out in the Mission Canyon area, and the Natural History Museum was closed Wednesday because of the outage. Some of the power lines weren’t expected to be repaired until as late as Thursday afternoon.
