Driver May Face Prison Time for Injuring Bicyclist

Last October, 51-year-old Douglas Lane was passing cars on the right side of State Route 67 when he struck and injured a bicyclist. He is now facing a felony charge of reckless driving causing great bodily injury. The mirror on Lane’s truck struck the back of the bicyclist’s head, which cracked her helmet and sent her to the ground. Detective Aaron Meleen testified that Lane initially left the scene of the collision too. According to Fox Channel Five News, Lane could face up to three years in prison.

The cyclist, Ambika Sundarsan, suffered from fractured vertebrae, fractured clavicle, broken leg and a concussion. She spent 10 days in the trauma center and an additional two months bedridden at home. Arraignment is scheduled for June 13, 2014.
