DUI Patrols in San Luis Obispo
The San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) started conducting additional DUI patrols last weekend. On Saturday night, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., they were on the lookout for drivers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Officials with the SLOPD want motorists to know that driving under the influence involves more substances than just alcohol. Even some legally prescribed and over-the-counter medications can lead to impairment behind the wheel.
According to KSBY News Channel Six, the California Office of Traffic Safety funded these extra patrols through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. At this time, motorists caught driving under the influence can be charged with a DUI that will cost an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to having their license suspended.
