Elderly Driver Hits Horse and Rider

On Friday, an elderly driver in Rancho Santa Fe struck a horse and rider. According to ABC News Channel 10, the horse and rider were in the bicycle lane near Linea del Cielo when an 87-year-old driver in a Toyota Corolla veered off of the roadway and struck them. The rider, a 61-year-old woman, was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of major injuries. Her horse died on the scene.

Although very few details about this incident have been released, the driver involved was reportedly uninjured in the collision. Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be factors in this crash, which could still be under investigation with local law enforcement authorities.
