Last week, an elderly man drove the wrong way down Interstate 5 in South Bay. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened sometime around 10:30 a.m. At least two vehicles were sideswiped by the elderly driver’s van before it crashed into a median near Dairy Mart Road. There were quite a few close calls, and one witness report stated that the driver was traveling at about 80 miles per hour at one point.
Thankfully, no major injuries were reported and first responders rushed to the scene. There has been no word on whether or not the driver has been cited or charged or if the incident is still under investigation with local law enforcement authorities. ABC San Diego News Channel 10 also reported that there were 384 wrong-way drivers in San Diego and Imperial Counties last year.
