Fatal Collision on Highway 101 near Paso Robles
Last night, a 22-year-old driver rear-ended a vehicle in front of her while attempting to change lanes. The collision badly injured and ultimately killed the older driver of the vehicle that was hit. The 67-year-old man was reported to have died at the scene.
CHP reports the driver of the vehicle that caused the collision remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. She suffered minor injuries and did not appear to be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
Four total vehicles were involved in the resulting pile-up but no other injuries were reported.
The incident occurred on California Highway 101 near Paso Robles just south of the Spring Street on-ramp. A detour was implemented to redirect traffic while authorities attended to the scene. All southbound lanes of the 101 freeway were blocked during the investigation.
The collision occurred north of a road closure due to construction.
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and a detective from the coroner’s office responded to the scene.
