On Saturday, there was a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened sometime before 2:00 a.m., near Hope Avenue. Very few details about the crash have been reported, but we do know that a 27-year-old man from Isla Vista was killed.

There has been no word on the cause of the crash, but initial reports indicate that the front of a Nissan Sentra collided with the concrete K-rail in the median. The vehicle caught fire during the crash. First responders rushed to the scene, and a portion of the roadway was closed for more than two hours as crews worked. The cause of this fatal wrong-way crash is likely still under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
