On Sunday afternoon, a crash took the lives of three people in New Cuyama. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened on Highway 166, just east of Bell Drive. Very few details about this fatal crash have been released, but we do know that it was a head-on collision. Initial reports indicate that a westbound Ford Escape, driven by a 19-year-old man from Santa Maria, veered across the double-yellow line and struck a Ford Explorer head-on.
There were two occupants inside of the Explorer at the time of the crash. They were both killed. The driver of the Ford Escape was also killed in the wreck. A portion of Highway 166 had to be closed as crews and first responders worked the scene. This fatal head-on crash is still under investigation with the California Highway Patrol.
