On Wednesday, a woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 41. According to KSBY News Channel Six, the wreck happened between Atascadero and Morro Bay, near Old Morro Road West, sometime around 12:50 p.m. Very few details have been released about this wreck, but initial reports indicate that the maroon-colored SUV hydroplaned and traveled down an embankment prior to striking a tree. The impact of the crash caused the tree to fall.

First responders rushed to the scene, where the fallen tree partially blocked the roadway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Although this crash is likely still under investigation, officers on the scene suspected she was driving too fast for the conditions.
