Early Friday morning, two people were killed, including a woman from Santa Maria, in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver in Oceanside. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at about 2:00 a.m. At this time, very little information has been released about this fatal wrong-way crash. We do know that it involved a 38-year-old woman from Santa Maria in a Toyota 4Runner and also a 31-year-old man from Oceanside in a Toyota Camry.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol are investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol may have been factors in this crash. All lanes of southbound I-5 had to be closed for a few hours as crews and investigators worked the scene. Authorities have not released the names of either of the deceased drivers. This fatal crash is likely still under investigation with law enforcement officials.
