Fatal Semi Truck Crash Near Castaic

Earlier this week, there was a fatal crash involving a big rig near Castaic. According to KTLA News Channel Five, the wreck happened on Monday afternoon on the Five Freeway. Initial reports indicate that the tractor-trailer left the roadway and went down an embankment about 80 feet off the road. Apparently the truck driver may have suffered some type of medical event or condition before the fully loaded truck left the roadway.

In spite of attempted life-saving measures by a responding CHP officer, the truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene. That officer was then flown to a nearby hospital after possibly suffering from heat exhaustion. The two right lanes of the freeway had to be closed as crews worked the scene. This crash could still be under investigation with the California Highway Patrol.
