A fatal accident involving six vehicles occurred early Thursday morning in Orcutt on Highway 135. The cause of the major pileup was due to a suspected DUI driver in a tractor-trailer vehicle. The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Gilbert Pena, and he was driving in the left lane of southbound on Highway 135, north of Union Valley Parkway, at an unknown rate of speed, and struck the rear of a Nissan, killing both the driver and passenger, per The Santa Maria Times. The driver and passenger in the Nissan have yet to be identified. Four other vehicles were involved in the accident and emergency crews helped extricate two people from their car and eight victims complained of pain and injuries. The extent of injuries have yet to be announced. Pena was arrested for driving under the influence.
