Fewer DUI Arrests During Increased Enforcement

KSBY News Channel Six recently reported that there were fewer DUI arrests in Santa Barbara County during the recent holiday DUI enforcement period. The increased enforcement exercise ran from December 12, 2014 to January 1, 2015. Law enforcement officers traditionally see an increase in alcohol and drug impaired driving crashes during the holiday season, due to an increase in celebrations involving alcohol.

The Increase Enforcement Stats

• This year, there were 122 DUI arrests during the holiday enforcement period.
• Last year, there were 146 DUI arrests.
• There was one DUI crash related fatality this year.

At least 12 different agencies took part in the increased law enforcement exercise. The next high-enforcement period will be conducted during Super Bowl Sunday.
