Last week, there was a five-vehicle crash on Highway 166 near Santa Maria. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened just west of Tepusquet Road at about 8:30 p.m. Very few details about this multi-car injury crash have been released, but initial reports indicate that an eastbound driver in an Infinity FX35 crossed the double yellow line in an attempt to pass another vehicle. That driver did not see the four oncoming vehicles in the westbound lane.

First responders and crews rushed to the scene, where at least one person had to be airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major injuries. A portion of the highway had to be closed as crews worked the scene. Drugs and alcohol didn’t appear to be factors, but the investigation is likely still ongoing. Thankfully, everybody involved was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
