Fuel Spill on Highway 101

On Tuesday, a portion of Highway 101 had to be closed after a fuel tank fell off of a passenger bus. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened sometime before 8:00 a.m., just south of Buellton. The dislodged tank spilled fuel across the roadway. At this time, there’s no word on how the fuel tank fell off of the bus. Chumash Casino Resort reportedly owned the bus.

We do know that a driver behind the bus hit the fuel spill and spun out of control. That vehicle came to rest on a dirt hillside. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the crash. About 40 gallons of fuel had to be cleaned from the roadway. First responders and Caltrans workers were working on the scene for hours.
