Injury-Causing Crashes in Carpinteria

On Wednesday night, at least three people were injured in two separate crashes on Highway 101 in Carpinteria. Traffic was actually backed up until Thursday morning. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the first crash involved a semi truck and a small passenger vehicle. This wreck happened before 7:30 p.m. just south of Santa Claus Lane. Initial reports indicate that the driver of the car moved into the right lane and collided with the semi truck. The big rig struck a guardrail and hit the center divider. It came to rest on its side in the roadway.

The driver of the car was injured, and a passenger in the semi truck had to be transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major injuries. Before 10:00 p.m. a chain-reaction crash happened involving at least four cars. At least one person was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Crews were on the scene clearing the wreckage for most of the night.
