On Monday afternoon, a kindergartner was hit by a car near her elementary school in Mira Mesa. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened while the little girl and her mother were walking through a crosswalk. Thankfully, the little girl only sustained what were reported as minor injuries on the scene. Concerned parents are calling for better safety measures in the area since this close call could have been a lot worse.
The particular crossing walk where the little girl was hit did not have a crossing guard, and some people are calling for additional safety measures for school children in the area. After the incident, Dawn Powell, the principal at Mason Elementary School, did issue a statement about traffic and crossing walk safety near the school. No information has been released on whether or not the driver involved was cited.
