KEARNY MESA- A male bicyclist died of his injuries after being struck by three different vehicles Thursday morning. The accident occurred on the Balboa Avenue off-ramp in Kearny Mesa. While the bicyclist was wearing a helmet, the helmet was destroyed in the collision and his injuries proved fatal. California Highway Patrol reports that the male bicyclist was first struck by a Ford Expedition, followed by two other vehicles in different lanes. The bicyclist’s body was pinned under the last vehicle. Emergency crews responded to the scene and closed the Balboa Avenue off-ramp for approximately four hours while the San Diego Police Department investigated the accident. While Balboa Avenue does not have a designated bike lane, Office Mark McCullough with the San Diego Police Department states, “the cyclist’s body was in the correct area where he should’ve been biking”. The bicyclist’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
