On Monday night, a man in San Marcos called the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department due to a potential intruder in his family’s home. When the deputies arrived, they let their K9 unit, a large German Shepherd Dog, run loose in the home. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the dog didn’t find a burglar, but he did chomp on the homeowner’s leg. For currently unknown reasons, the dog was briefly unsupervised, off-leash and was able to attack the homeowner.

It took about two minutes for deputies to pry the dog off of the homeowner’s leg. He suffered a severed tendon, blood vessel and damage to his calf muscles. Thankfully, that man is expected to recover from his injuries, and he does not hold any ill will toward the law enforcement officers.
