On Tuesday night, a motorcyclist crashed on the Highway 101 in Santa Barbara due to a negligent driver. The incident occurred near the Carrillo street exit in the northbound lanes. A vehicle cut in front of the motorcyclist which caused him to hit his breaks and fly over his handlebars. Surrounding cars saw the incident and stopped to help the motorcyclist. According to the CHP, “Northbound freeway traffic in the area was heavily backed up after the crash, which remained under investigation.” The motorcyclist was taken to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and thankfully is not suffering from life threatening injuries.
Statistics show motorcyclists have a 50 percent higher chance of being involved in an accident than automobile drivers. Even if a negligent driver swerves or suddenly changes lanes causing the accident, police officers and insurance companies are often quick to place blame on the motorcyclist.
