Motorcycle Passenger Dies in Wreck on SR 79

On Sunday, a motorcycle crash took the life of the passenger and sent the driver the hospital. According to NBC Channel Seven News, the incident happened just south of Julian. Apparently, a 45-year-old male driver and 53-year-old female passenger on a Harley Davidson were heading southbound on State Route 79 when they pulled up behind a slower vehicle.

When the motorcycle attempted to pass the slower vehicle, which had pulled to the right to allow the motorcycle to go around, another car came around a blind left-hand curve. Since the riders had apparently crossed into the northbound lane briefly to pass the slow vehicle, they were headed straight for the second vehicle, head on. To avoid a crash, the motorcyclist swerved hard and flew down an embankment. Although they were both wearing helmets, the female passenger died and the driver was transported to a hospital in San Diego for treatment of injuries.
