Motorcyclist Airlifted After Striking a Mattress in the Roadway

A female motorcyclist had to be airlifted on Tuesday afternoon after striking a mattress in the roadway. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened at about 3:15 p.m. on Highway 135 at the Clark Avenue off ramp. Very few details have been released, but for some reason, there was a mattress in the roadway. It was likely spilled cargo from somebody’s truck bed or trailer.

The woman was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when she struck the mattress. When there is debris in the roadway, it can be difficult or impossible for motorcycle riders to safely navigate around it. The roadway had to be shut down so the Calstar helicopter could land. She was swiftly transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but there’s no word on the extent of her injuries or her current condition.
