NHTSA Multi-Pronged Approach Impaired Driving Campaigns
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a press release about their multi-pronged approach to address impaired driving this holiday weekend. As cities and states around the nation begin to reopen, the NHTSA expects to see more vehicles on U.S. roadways for the Independence Day holiday weekend. With more drivers on the road, coupled with a holiday weekend, we can also expect to see an increase in impaired driving related crashes. This year, the NHTSA has five different campaigns focused on raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving
The Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving campaign is specifically targeted to educating the public that even one drink can be one drink too many. If you’re buzzed, you shouldn’t be behind the wheel. No amount of alcohol is safe to drive on.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is all about reminding motorists of the legal consequences of driving under the influence. If you choose to get behind the wheel after drinking, you can get arrested and charged with a DUI.
If You Feel Different, You Drive Different- Drug-Impaired Driving Prevention
This anti-drugged driving campaign is focused on informing motorists that they shouldn’t be driving if they’re taking any kind of substance that makes them feel different. This can even include over the counter and legally prescribed medications.
If You Feel Different, You Drive Different- Drive High, Get a DUI
The Drive High, Get a DUI campaign is raising awareness about the fact that you can get a DUI for driving while under the influence of drugs. Again, this can even include certain legally prescribed and over the counter medications.
Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over
Finally, the Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is targeted to motorcyclists. Motorcyclists have the same responsibilities as other roadway users, and that includes riding sober.
