Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train in Santa Barbara

On Tuesday, a pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Santa Barbara. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened near the West Junipero Street footbridge, near Highway 101 and the Union Pacific railroad tracks, at about 10:25 p.m. Very little information about this fatal train collision has been released, but we do know that the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. Initial reports indicate that the train involved was a northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner.

First responders and crews rushed to the scene, and the train was stopped near the Las Positas Road overpass for more than an hour. At this time, no information has been released on how or why the pedestrian was hit by the train, and this incident is likely still under investigation with local authorities.
