Santa Barbara Crash and Fuel Spill

On Thursday afternoon, a wreck involving a tow truck resulted in a fuel spill that shut down two major roads in Santa Barbara. For unknown reasons, a tow truck struck a parked car on Mission Street and spilled diesel fuel all over the roadway. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened between Chapala and State Streets at about 2:00 p.m.

First responders and cleaning crews were quickly on the scene. Apparently, the tow-truck driver wasn’t very coherent when officials arrived. Initial reports indicate that he may have suffered some kind of medical problem or was driving while impaired. It’s possible that he was either on his way to or just leaving a nearby doctor’s office too. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for a medical evaluation. The streets were closed until about 4:15 p.m. while crews cleaned.
