Skateboard and Minivan Collision Sends Child to Hospital

Earlier this week, a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured in a collision with a minivan. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the wreck happened in the City Heights area at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Initial reports indicate that the minivan, a Toyota Sienna, was headed northbound on the 4000 block of Estrella Avenue when it entered the intersection with Polk Avenue. For currently unknown reasons, the skateboarder was headed downhill on Polk and was unable to stop at the intersection.

The skateboarder slammed into the left rear bumper cover of the minivan. The child was rushed to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries including a fractured skull and brain bleed. At this time, there has been no word on her current condition or on the full extent of her injuries, and this incident may still be under investigation.
