Skateboarder Killed after Hit-and-Run in Carlsbad

On Wednesday night, a 20-year-old Carlsbad resident was fatally struck and killed while riding his skateboard. The collision happened around Palomar Airport Road and Carlsbad Boulevard. The victim, Vinnie Zellefrow, was found along the southbound lanes of Carlsbad Boulevard. First responders spent nearly 30 minutes performing CPR in hopes he would recover, but he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

According to ABC Channel 10 News, detectives began their investigation near the scene of the crime and located a car matching witness descriptions on Ponto Drive. On Thursday, law enforcement officials had a 17-year-old girl in custody. She was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. The identity of the teenage driver hasn’t been released, but friends of Zellefrow and concerned community members have been giving his family their full support.
