Motorists in the Santa Barbara area need to take note of the new speed limit or State Route 192. According to KSBY News Channel Six, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has reduced the speed limit on SR 192 from 55 miles per hours (mph) to 35 mph. The new speed limit impacts areas between the Santa Barbara Tennis Club and Chelham Way.

This speed limit change comes in response to safety concerns about this particular stretch of roadway. Concerned citizens and safety advocates felt that 55 mph was just too fast for this portion of the roadway. Caltrans is hoping this lowered speed limit will help to improve safety on SR 192. The new speed limit will go all the way through Santa Barbara and Montecito.
