Super Bowl Drunk Driving Prevention
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently publicizing their Super Bowl XLIX drunk driving prevention campaign. The campaign, “Super Bowl Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving after the big game.
It’s no secret that Super Bowl Sunday night is a dangerous time to be out on the roadways. Even with an increase in law enforcement presence, party goers are getting behind the wheel after drinking. The NHTSA has a variety of great safety tips for fans and party hosts this year.
Super Bowl Safety Tips
• If you plan on drinking, designate a driver.
• Make a game plan that includes a sober driver, before the big party.
• Have a backup plan.
• Crash on a couch, or take a cab.
• Buckle up on the ride home.
• If you plan on walking home, make sure you have a sober friend with you.
• If you’re hosting a party, make sure everybody has a safe ride home.
• Encourage guests to pace themselves and take away keys, if you have to.
Have a Game Plan for Super Bowl Sunday
Ultimately, the best way to stay alive and safe on Super Bowl Sunday is to have a game plan, ahead of time. Don’t wait until you’re drinking at the party to try to find a ride home. Make a plan, and stick to it. Don’t be afraid to call a cab if a ride falls through though. The most important thing is that you get home safe, and you don’t endanger anybody else on the roads. State and local law enforcement agencies will be out in full force too, so in addition to keeping roadways safe, you can also avoid a costly trip to jail.
