Early Monday morning, a driver struck a power pole in a Clairemont neighborhood. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened on the 4500 block of Mt. King Drive at about 1:30 a.m. The driver reportedly told authorities that the family cat ran in front of his vehicle and that’s why he had to swerve. His vehicle struck a power pole and burst into flames. The driver ran to his house, which was two blocks away.

A neighbor rushed to the scene to offer help, but saw that there wasn’t anybody in the vehicle. Another neighbor ran to the scene with a small fire extinguisher. Thankfully, first responders and crews were able to get there quickly and put out the fire. The driver did return to the scene, and law enforcement officials had him take a sobriety test.
