On Tuesday morning, a taxi driver was arrested after hitting a child in a Lompoc crosswalk and fleeing the scene. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and E Street, sometime before 10:00 a.m. Very few details have been released about this incident, but initial reports indicate that the child was pushing his bicycle while walking with his grandmother in the crosswalk when he was hit by the front of the taxi.

First responder rushed to the scene, where they discovered the taxi driver rushed off after hitting the child. They were able to apprehend the driver, and he was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired causing injury and fleeing the scene of a traffic collision causing injury. Thankfully, the child’s injuries were not described as life threatening on the scene.
