A Tesla vehicle crashed while in autonomous mode. On Tuesday, a Tesla crashed into a parked Laguna Beach Police car on Laguna Canyon Road. Thankfully, no one was in the Police car at the time of the accident. Authorities confirmed the Police car was ‘totaled’ from the collision. The Tesla driver did sustain injuries; however, non life-threatening, reported Tech Crunch.

This accident is one of many accidents caused by the faulty autonomous mode of the Tesla. Tesla has yet to take responsibility of the accidents related to autonomous mode. Tesla drivers must agree to a warning before entering in the self-driving mode. Per Tesla, “Drivers must accept a dialogue box which states that ‘Autopilot is designed for use on highways that have a center divider and clear lane markings’.” Furthermore, Tesla encourages drivers to be aware and keep their hands on the wheel when the autopilot is engaged. Critics and owners are concerned with the reliability and safety of autonomous mode. This gives drivers a false sense of security and ultimately, these accidents prove autonomous mode is not ‘safer’.
