Three Injured in Crash Involving Spilled Chlorine

On Wednesday, three people were sent to the hospital after a vehicle struck a container full of powdered chlorine on Highway 246. The incident happened sometime after 1:30 p.m., just west of Buellton. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, a truck carrying chlorine made a turn on the highway, and its tailgate came down. The five-gallon bucket of powered chlorine fell into the roadway.

A vehicle then struck the container, and the container became stuck. Because they had their windows down at the time, they suffered from moderate respiratory distress from inhaling the powdered chlorine. A hazmat crew was on the scene cleaning up the spilled chlorine for over an hour. At this time, there’s no word on the current conditions of the victims.
