Two Cyclists Injured on Highway 101
On Friday, two cyclists were injured in a bicycle crash that happened on Highway 101 at Gaviota. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened sometime before 9:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes, near Mariposa Reina. Apparently, one cyclist struck another cyclist who was stopped on the side of the road drinking water.
First responders were swiftly on the scene and had to close a portion of the right-hand lane. Both cyclists had to be taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of injuries. They were participating in the AIDS-Lifecycle ride, which is a weeklong fundraising event. Law enforcement authorities are reminding motorists to respect the Three-Feet rule and exercise additional caution when driving around cyclists.
