Over the weekend, two loose pit bulls mauled and killed a family horse off of Woodland Parkway in San Marcos. According to NBC San Diego News Channel 7, the family heard unfamiliar barking in their yard and ran outside to see their beloved horse Smokey being attacked. Smokey’s owner, Bill Barclay was fighting them off with a shovel, when he ran inside to get a gun. When he returned, the dogs ran off, and Smokey was gravely injured.

The dogs got loose again after being returned to their owner, and as of Tuesday, had not been located. Community members and neighbors are grieving the loss of this beloved horse, who could often be seen pulling a buggy or being ridden by Bill around the neighborhood. The team at Harris Personal Injury Lawyers, Inc. sends their deepest condolences to the Barclay family.
