U.S. DOT to Enhance Highway Safety
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a press release about the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (U.S. DOT) upcoming efforts to enhance highway safety across the nation. The press release announced that they’re getting $1.8 million in funding, with eligibility for up to $6.4 million in the future, for a variety of very important upcoming projects.
This funding is going toward providing critical support for five non-governmental partner organizations in efforts to enhance highway safety throughout the country. Some of the projects to be funded include combating impaired driving, supporting the 911 network, enhancing safety messaging for young drivers and giving technical assistance to state officials on various traffic safety issues.
Enhancing Highway Safety Through Partnership
The five organizations that the NHTSA will be collaborating with on these projects are the National District Attorneys Association, the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, the National Association of State 911 Administrators, the National Organization for Youth Safety and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
By working with these different groups, the NHTSA and the U.S. DOT will be able to better serve communities on issues such as toxicology and drug recognition expertise and working toward standard field sobriety testing for matters associated with drug-impaired driving. These programs will also provide outreach and educational programs on local levels across America. Additionally, there will also be funding for social media marketing to teen and young drivers at critical times of the year, like the winter holiday season, prom and graduation and the summer time.
