UCSD Student Killed in Skateboard Incident

Over the weekend, a UC San Diego student was killed in an incident involving his skateboard and another vehicle on campus. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened on Saturday night. Initial reports indicate that 19-year-old Carlos Rey Sotelo was skateboarding on Voigt Drive coming down a steep hill when he came off of his skateboard. While Sotelo was lying in the roadway, he was run over by a Nissan Maxima.

First responders rushed to the scene. Although bystanders attempted to render lifesaving aid, Sotelo did not survive his injuries. Sotelo, of Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, was a first-year electrical engineering student and lived in the Warren College dorms. At this time, there has been no word on whether or not any citations have been made, and this incident may still be under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
