Vehicle Hit by Amtrak Train Near Carpinteria

Over the weekend, a vehicle was hit by an Amtrak train near Carpinteria. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened on southbound Highway 101, between Evans Avenue and Padaro Lane on Saturday afternoon. Very few details have been released about this train-versus-car crash, but we do know that the vehicle involved was a Prius. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle went over the side of the roadway, rolled down an embankment and stopped on the tracks.

Thankfully, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle before the train hit it. Additionally, the train engineer did see what happened, and was able to slow down prior to hitting the vehicle. Although she escaped the wreckage, the driver was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of injuries. This train crash is likely still under investigation with the California Highway Patrol.
