Woman Struck by SDG&E Truck Killed While Protecting Children

On Wednesday, a woman was struck and killed by a San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) truck. The incident happened on the 300 block of Cottonwood Street just after 7:30 a.m. According to ABC Channel 10 News, 37-year-old Ana Herrera Rodriguez was walking her daughter and her daughter’s friend to school. Witness reports indicate that Rodriguez was trying to push the children behind her to safety before she was struck.

The two little girls were immediately taken to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries. Lieutenant Darryl Hoover stated that driving into the morning sun may have played a role in this incident. SDG&E has issued a statement regarding the crash and their intent to cooperate fully with authorities on the investigation.
