Last week, a worker in East County was killed when iron beams fell on top of him. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened at West Coast Iron on Jamacha Road. Very little information about this workplace incident has been released, but initial reports indicate that the 29-year-old worker was helping to load I-beams when a highly-stacked set of beams were knocked to the ground.
The falling beams struck the worker. In spite of rescue efforts made by first responders on the scene and doctors at the hospital, the worker did not survive the injuries. This incident is currently under investigation with the State Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA). The investigation could take up to six months.
