Early Monday morning, a motorcyclist was hit and killed by a wrong-way suspected drunk driver on the Interstate 5 in San Ysidro. According to NBC San Diego, the DUI suspect, in a Mazda 3, was driving northbound in the southbound I-5 lanes north of Dairy Mart Road. The Mazda 3 driver crashed head-on with the motorcyclist who was driving the right way.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed that the impact of the crash caused the Mazda to spin out onto the freeway. Shortly after the spin out, a Dodge truck with three people hit the Mazda. The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspected drunk driver suffered minor injuries as well and was taken to the hospital.
