On Saturday morning, one person was killed and another critically injured following a fiery single-car crash in Kearny Mesa. The collision occurred around 2:30 am on state Route 52, according to the Times of San Diego. The male driver of a Nissan was traveling eastbound when he left the roadway and entered the right shoulder, causing the car to strike a large eucalyptus tree and catch on fire. Officers from the CHP arrived on scene and attempted to extinguish the fire while awaiting further help.  

The Nissan driver was found lying outside the car and was transported to the hospital. The passenger was discovered inside the vehicle by firefighters. It was unclear whether the person died from the impact or the fire.
