On Thursday morning, two people died and two others were injured after crashing their sedan into a parked tractor-trailer on the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park. According to CBS News, the collision took place around 5:25 am on the southbound side of the freeway near Wendy Drive. CHP arrived on scene to find a big rig parked on the right shoulder and an overturned 2016 Honda Accord located about 500 feet from the truck. Two bodies that had been ejected from the sedan were found in the nearby brush. The driver of the Honda and a third passenger sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital. The two people in the semi did not suffer any injuries.

CHP determined that the Honda driver swerved onto the right shoulder of the freeway before crashing into the rear of the parked big rig. It then continued on and collided with a large boulder, causing it to flip onto its roof. At the time of the report, it was unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
