On Thursday morning, three motorcyclists were killed and five other people injured in a pileup crash near Camp Pendleton. According to ABC 7, the incident occurred around 3:00 am near the Las Pulgas Road onramp on the I-5, about 10 miles north of Oceanside. A Jeep Wrangler that was heading southbound veered off the freeway, hit a guardrail, and became disabled. A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van then struck the Jeep and overturned. Four motorcyclists traveling in tandem collided with the Jeep and van, and two motorcycles caught fire.

Two men in the Jeep suffered critical injuries and were taken to the hospital via helicopter, stated the San Diego Union Tribune. Two people in the Mercedes were also hospitalized, along with the fourth motorcycle rider. All southbound lanes were closed during the investigation, resulting in a traffic backup that was 14 miles long.
