4-Vehicle Crash Leaves 1 Dead in Salinas
On Saturday afternoon, one person was killed and another injured in a suspected DUI crash in Salinas. The incident took place around 1:07 pm on southbound Highway 101, south of Laurel Drive, according to KSBW Action News 8. A man was replacing the tire of a Chevrolet Colorado pickup on the right shoulder while a woman stood nearby. A Nissan Altima was also parked on the shoulder in front of the pickup. At the same time, a 2005 Acura TL veered off the highway from the number 2 lane, sideswiped the woman on the shoulder, and then hit the man changing the tire and the pickup itself.
The impact caused the pickup to crash into the Nissan, while the Acura spun out and hit a 2003 Honda Pilot. There were no injuries reported from the Honda, but the woman who had been sideswiped suffered from “abdominal contusions.” The man replacing the tire died at the scene from his injuries. The Acura driver sustained moderate injuries and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
